Midwest Conference of the Comparative and International Education Society (CIES)
The conference was very important to me and ended in a Style...
I was really impressed in one of the sessions where I felt Yes,this is where I belong!!
The presender was James Brown whose Resarch was about Teacher Training and the case study
was Malawi.Sponsored by save the children.
He noted that 60% of the Teachers in Malawi were unqualified and enrolled for inservice Training
while only 40% of the teachers were qualified.he said, the difference between the two was that, the qualified teachers introduced their lessons with an ice breaker so as to engage the pupils in class while the unqualified do not.He said, language of instruction was Native language from grade 1-4 and English was introduced from grade 5. In the feedback,he talked about the new ways of understanding pedagogy,Teacher quality and lastly he mentioned the biggest problem which was lack of scholastic materials.
Why was I interested in the Research ? I felt James was Representing the Voice of South Sudan.
Very interesting, Jim will be incredibly flattered to hear how much you appreciated his presentation! I'm assuming you see many similarieties between the teacher in Malawi and in South Sudan. I will be interested in seeing some of your policy suggestions from Dr Dan's seminar and if they relate! Thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteyes, Peace I think you attended a very good session that can help us solve the same issues in South Sudan, so let us take the advantage and the steps needed, and I believe, you have a good experience.
